The Full Tour

Saturday 22nd May 2010
As I was up early ! I soon had Wally packed and ready for the road..
I paid my dues ( having to explain how to add up correctly !) and set up intending to stay at Canga de Onis http://www.cangasdeonis.com/
so that I could visit the nearby area of Covadonga, and it's lakes http://www.picoseuropa.net/lagos/index.php
Unfortunately when I got there, I found it's only campsite closed !
I did drive through the town of Canga,it looked busy, and exciting...but nowhere for me to stop !
Soon was explained, as I was on the road, looking for another campsite,a massive cycle race passed, more competitors than the Tour de France !,although not many mechanics following...it went on,on and on...with the groups getting slower as time (and no doubt fitness) passed ..
The best I could make out was that it was the 'Covadonga Race 2010' which obviously did a circuit of some of the National Park,. but exactly where was hard to find out..if I'd known earlier I could have joined in, and had some fun!
I then tanked up Wally (for the first time in Spain!) and hit the Road...

thinking I would drive towards Riana, through another spectacular, and twisting road along the River Rio gorge...which went on for miles - just glad it was a Saturday,hot...and hardly anyone on the Road!

As I reached Riana, and stull no sight of a campsite which was open, I headed over the Puerto San Gloria pass, towards my original starting point of Potes !http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puerto_de_San_Glorio

Along the road me and Wally wended our way, glorious country, sunshine..and clear roads, up and over the top - where I had my highest ever ice lolly ! - courtesy of the onboard fidge/freezer (luxury) at 1609 mts, then we wended our way down the pass, towards Potes, and finally back to the campsite at Potes....and t'internet !!

A glorious drive, which had allowed me views of the entire Picos de Europa National Park ..a great journey !

  1. Hi Joe!
I see wally's still getting tanked-up but changed from red wine to diesel!! Sounds like an interesting tour. Don't worry our campsite is always open!!!!! Not heard any mention about washing machines in that super-duper camper though! So yes the offer is still on, just give me a days notice then I can stock up on washing powder!!....Oh and I hate to mention this but I can feel a pain coming on in my ironing arm!!!!!!!!!!
See you soon or 'ciao for now' as they say here in Bell'italia!!!!
