Sublime to the Ridiculous !

Saturday 16th October 2010

Well, I woke up to a lovely daybreak from my secluded accommodation at Knockan Crag IMG_4060

What a start to the day, it looked to be a good day ahead, how long will it continue I wondered ? –still if it gets bad….I can always go home !

I had a relaxed leisurely start, having decided where I was to stay tonight, so knew i didn’t have to rush, and so made good use of the onsite facilities!(toilet!),and after many more photos of the views..

I set off, travelling firstly to Ullapool, where I helped a chap to start his car – which had had its lights on for 4 days, whilst on the islands!-filled the food locker, although not much of a selection (at Tesco’s finest!) filled up with fuel, and set off along the road…

I firstly called in at The Corieshalloch Gorge, a deep chasm in the rocks, with spectacular waterfalls..unfortunately it was locked ! The site had been closed by Natural Scotland, and all access was locked and barred …a pity for me, and several other travellers who continued to turn up whilst I was there.

Continuing I headed West of the A832 along Little Loch Broom on my right, and the mighty bulk of An Teallach,3484 mts on my left..great views, and very little traffic.

As I swung around the coast above Gruinard Bay, looking down I could see something on the rocks, and so stopping and looking more closely I realised there was a great colony of seals…basking (or wallowing) on the rocks,as the sea lapped up and around themIMG_4083

This is the only picture I could get of them as my battery finally ran out..and I couldn’t find the spare..

I continued around the bay and into Poolewe, to the Camping and Caravan Club site there…where, as it was the staffs ‘day off’ (what a day to have off – the busiest!), I sorted out my place, and worked out what was available..http://www.campingandcaravanningclub.co.uk/siteseeker/aspx/details.aspx?id=7140

I settled down in the afternoon sunshine washing everything—me included, and relaxed in shorts,t shirt and sandals..what a life !IMG_4084

I anxiously awaited the evening sunset, which because of the location I thought would be good..unfortunately it clouded over just before ,and although there were a few red spots, not as good as I had hoped for..
